Marios Panayides
Permanent Secretary - Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry
Marios Panayides is the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Commerce, and Industry. He previously served as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Sport, and Youth. Before assuming his role as Permanent Secretary, he served as Nicosia’s District Officer from September 2013 to October 2019 and held the position of Director of Technical Services for the Ministry of Interior and Nicosia District Administration Office from 1995 to 2013. Prior to his government service, Mr. Panayides worked as a Structural Engineer in the private sector in a prominent architectural office from 1991 to 1995.
He actively participates as a member of the board of Directors in public benefit organizations and has represented the Republic of Cyprus in various European and International Committees, including the Standing Committee for Construction Products, the European Committee of Competent Market Surveillance Authorities of Construction Products, the Consortium of European Building Control, the Steering Committee for Education Policy and Practice (Council of Europe), and the High-Level Group on Education and Training. Mr. Panayides plays a pivotal role in representing the Republic of Cyprus in European Ministerial Meetings and International Forums.
His educational background includes a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering (Structural Engineering) from the National Technical University of Athens. Additionally, he holds a
Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Limassol (CIIM Business School). Currently, he is a Ph.D. candidate in the School of Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering at Frederic University.
