Senior Scientist at the Marine and Offshore Science and Technology Centre, Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI)
Dr Elias Yfantis is the Professor of Marine Engineering at the Hellenic Naval Academy and coordinator of the Mechanical Engineering Program at the University of Nicosia. He currently serves as the Senior Scientist at the Marine and Offshore Science and Technology Centre in addition to being the acting director of Academic Affairs. His research interests focus on marine propulsion and power generation systems including diesel engines, gas turbines, auxiliary and waste heat recovery systems. His RTDI activities cover various interdisciplinary fields (evaluation of diesel engines’ performance and environmental behaviour; development of prognostic and diagnostic techniques for machinery systems; simulation of complex thermofluids phenomena; innovative design of marine engineering systems; maritime alternative fuels).
Dr Yfantis’ recent professional expertise includes participation in permanent and ad hoc committees (Member of the Educational Activities Committee, Cyprus Shipping Chamber; Head of the technical and advisory committee, Public Port Authority, Piraeus, Greece; Member of the working group for strategic planning and R&D projects at the Hellenic Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy; Member of the working group for the national system for integrated sea surveillance at the Hellenic Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy; Member of the Veritas International Ltd ship design team for the Als® family of naval ships; National representative of Greece to the NATO Science and Technology Organization and member of the Applied Vehicle Technology Panel)
